Brand Development
If I can build one esports brand, I surely can build 20 more...
SMITE Pro League Team Brands
At the start of 2021, our studio made a radical change to the organizational model we used for the SMITE Pro League. We completely did away with partner organizations, and brought all of eight of our pro league teams in-house with the intent of designing unique brands for each one. Each of these teams needed a name, a logo, brand colors, a unique voice, and an established Twitter presence. And it all had to be grounded in the mythological universe of SMITE.
After messaging this paradigm shift out to our community and ensuring that they were fully on board with the idea, I began working closely with our legal teams and an extremely talented graphic designer named Denis Davydov to pull this off. While he was hard at work designing our logos, I was hard at work creating Twitter accounts for each of these teams and determining what brand voice was best suited to each one.
Here's a look at the eight completed brands we created for the SMITE Pro League.
SMITE Challenger Circuit Team Brands
Thanks in large part to the talent of our designer and the proactive stance I took on messaging these changes to our fans, the team brand rollout was exceptionally well-received by our audience. It went so well that just a year later, we extended this team branding project to our semi-pro league, the SMITE Challenger Circuit!
Once again, I worked with Denis and our legal team to create 12 more team brands -- six for North America, and six for Europe. And once again, the results were excellent. Here's a look at both the pitch deck I put together for these teams, and the finalized designs that we rolled out about six months later.
